Practise Photography.

My practise photo's for my magazine. I wanted the images to look fairly serious as it fits the genre that I have chosen to do, also by editing some of them it makes them look more interesting. These are only practise and testers which might not feature in my final magazine.

Here I have practised all the different shot sizes and angles that are used. I have wrote what they represent and when they are mostly used. This has helped me into getting a final photography plan for images in my magazine.

   I have chosen to do an Indie genre magazine so would need to make the photography fit into that genre. By researching into ‘Indie’ magazines that are already on the market such as ‘NME’ magazine you can see how effectively the photography has been done to suit the genre.  Down below are a few examples of how the photography has been used on this particular magazine to catch the audiences eye.

The front cover image seems very hectic and full, you can see there’s a lot going on within the main image. On the left magazine there is a high angle shot that has been used to create a stance. Both of these images are there to attract people into being interested and looking further into reading and buying that magazine. The feature band on the front cover takes over and pops out at the reader to draw their attention to that particular band. It is the first thing we look at so therefore it is a good technique to persuade the reader to reading on in the magazine.

   As I am doing an Indie Rock magazine I want it all to look very full and creative so by choosing a ‘band’ to feature as the main image it will fit within the style that I am going for. I am going to use a fairly low angle and a medium long shot so the band can be established. They will look serious instead of smiling to fit within the genre. They need to have presence and look overpowering towards the reader so they look important and very eye catching. 

   Costume is also a very important feature that establishes what genre magazine it is because the clothes they wear could be messy, neat, baggy, pretty. For this particular genre I would want the models to wear dark colours that are more ‘rock ‘n’ roll’, this will represent certain audiences that enjoy that style and music.  I will maybe use certain props such a hats and guitar for the models to hold to create a typical rock star image.
